Hi there, blog friends ~ For the month of August, Loll is the hostess at the CAS Mix Up Challenge and she is challenging us to recycle our inky 'Paper Towels' to create our cards. She has a detailed explanation and a few videos to get us going on this technique, so it's much easier than you might think. I was really inspired by everything on the challenge blog, and when I saw Hideko's design, I created this card:
I started by softly blending distress inks using my life-changing brushes and set it aside. I used 2 colors of re-inkers and water on my water media mat and mopped them with paper towels, then hung them to dry overnight. I re-spritzed sections of the paper towels and dabbed them onto certain sections of mixed media paper for the background (top right, bottom left). Here is a close-up:
I love how the texture of the quilted paper towel shows up on the background. I also ink blended the flower petals and stacked the flower and frame 3 times for dimension. Lastly, I embossed the sentiment with Altenew Rose Gold EP and mounted everything on a pink card base.
* I wish the metallic EP's showed up better on screen...the sentiment reads: Hello, Sweet Friend
To fulfill the requirements of this challenge:
Paper towel technique using stamping, ink blending, die cutting, inlaid technique, heat embossing
I had a lot of fun creating my card...if you would like to play along, stop by the CAS Mix Up Challenge Blog and check out the videos and inspiration from the DT. Also, Betty is the Guest Designer for August and she has created a gorgeous shaker card to inspire everyone ~

What a pretty card and what a stunning effect with the technique x. I couldn't get the effect of the paper towel onto my cards and now convinced that I need paper towels with a more defined embossing on them! x. Thank you for joining in the CAS Mix Up Challenge with your beautiful card x
You have rocked this challenge Barb, I was trying to think what I could do and the only thing was use the paper towel as an ink pad... not very clever lol. Love your sweet colour combo here too!
such a lovely soft color combo and great texture, Barb - love your design - and thanks for mentioning me in your blog!
This looks like so much fun, and your card turned out so very beautifully, Barb! Now if I could just remember to USE paper towels!
LOve your die, my friend!

Beautiful colour combination barb and love that die cut :)
I see how you were inspired, Barb by Hideko's beautiful soft background. I love your soft background with the texture from the paper towel showing thru. Wonderful die cut fower with your inlaid petals. Beautiful final touch with your heat embossed sentiment. TFS my friend. Hugs..Nancy
So, so pretty, Barb ... the soft paper towel background adds such a lovely summery dreaminess to your crisp bloom ... it's gorgeous! Hugs, Anita :)
Very pretty Barb. The use of the towel has produced a soft pastel background.
Barb your pinks are fabulous and the texture the paper towel gives adds such a nice subtle texture.
Your soft coloured background is so pretty and delicate looking Barb. I can see some of the quilted design which adds a lot of interest. Gorgeous flower and sweet sentiment in rose gold. xx
I'm so honored that my card inspired you, Barb! Your soft paper transfer background is so beautiful, especially with the subtle texture of the paper towel! The pretty pink petals tie with the background color and the stacked die-cut adds great dimension and definition. The gold shine from the sentiment is so beautiful and goes well with pink and green.
Thanks so much for sharing this beauty at CAS Mix Up!
Hideko xx
I love the delicacy to the bloom accomplished by the brushing and soft paper pattern transfer. Truly a beautiful card Barb. Thanks so much for joining us at CAS Mix Up! xx
